JANET WONDRA

PLANET

You ask what I’m thinking
I say red planet
meaning how much I love you
how far away
and what we did to each other
felt hard and softness
what’s under the skin
we don’t talk about
stays mysterious as
channels you see in the telescope
Is there water there?
Water to soothe my brow?
something I can wash you with
wash away the death of our friend
I see him now
riding in a boat
on a lake where mist
veils his gesture
Is he waving good-bye
or tossing his hair back from his brow?
How I’d love to see that brow
close up       love to give it
back to you      walk
the surface of our red planet
hand in hand
in hand
